Three Weeks Old!

Today Kate is three weeks old. It is hard to believe how quickly time is flying by! The photo above was taken by Sweet Pea photography. We had the best time at Kate's infant photo session. I am not sure how we are ever going to pick out which pictures to order. I am including a couple of this week's highlights below.

Kate was nine pounds and six ounces at our pediatrician's appointment on Friday. I don't think she will be able to wear her newborn size clothes for very much longer...and she has almost grown out of the newborn size diapers. Our pediatrician called her a " little chunker.":) She certainly loves to eat!

We have had a busy week with lots of friends and family visiting. Marie, my dear friend from UNC, visited over the weekend. I was so excited to introduce her to baby Kate. During Marie's visit, we went to Carter's Mountain. The weather was beautiful, and it was fun to pick out a pumpkin and buy lots of delicious apples.

Marie's First Glimpse of Kate!

Dee Dee, Robby's grandmother, also came into town this week from Ohio. It was wonderful to see her. Kate has enjoyed being rocked and cuddled a lot over the last few days by her Dee Dee.

Kate and I also had to get used to Robby going back to work full time. We miss him, but thankfully so far he has come back home to visit us each day for lunch!

Two Weeks Old

Kate is two weeks old today! Claire and I can hardly believe that the time has passed so quickly. We have all enjoyed our time at home, but unfortunately I had to go back to work today. The one nice thing is that I get to work from home through the end of the week, so I actually go back to the office on Monday. My boss, Bob, said that he was fine with me working from home, provided I kept the dirty diapers away from my laptop! That is just a great excuse for me when Claire asks for help changing Kate.

Kate is absolutely wonderful. The first week was a little tough for sleeping, but this last week has been much better. In fact, last night we all slept for about 9 hours, with breaks every 3 hours for feeding. Any sleep is good sleep right now, but it is amazing how you can still feel exhausted because you are only sleeping in intervals. One nice thing is that it is getting easier and easier to wake up in the middle of the night when Kate does. The other problem with sleeping is that Kate is the noisiest sleeper I have ever heard. We were given an in home photography shoot by Claire's friend, Alison G., for a shower and the photographer even said she had never heard a baby make so many noises while sleeping.

We are continuing to take photos at an unprecedented rate. I am sure by time Kate is one month old I will need a new computer to hold all the photos! I have added more photos to the link from the first post (I accidentally put them on the original link, not the newer one). Just click on the photo below the first and follow the links to the album labeled "Kate."

We go back to the pediatrician on Friday, so I will post more updates on Kate this weekend.

6 days old

Our first few days home have been both wonderful and exhausting. Kate has slept all day and been up ALL night! Finally, last night she started to shift her time clock and she only woke up for night time feedings. We would also like to thank who ever invented the sound machine. Not only did Kate sleep well last night, Claire and I had a hard time waking up to feed and change her because we were sleeping so hard.

Yesterday we took Kate out for her first doctor's visit. She has obviously been eating very well, because she is already 2 ounces over her birth weight. Since we were already downtown for the doctor, we took Kate out for her first trip on the downtown mall. My Dad joined us for a quick lunch at Eppies and Claire and Kate were able to take their first major walk outside. Both Claire and Kate did really well, but they over-did-it and they were both exhausted later.

Today, we put Kate down on her little play mat to try and keep her awake for a little while and she seemed to enjoy herself. Mostly, she just stared at the mirror over her...with a face like that, how could you blame her! We also gave her a bath at home and I received numerous dirty looks (forgive the pun), as she enjoyed the hot water but did not like being scrubbed. Despite the bath time reactions, we did get some really cute pictures after her bath.

I have posted more pictures on the website and have added a video below (Baby Kate gave her Auntie Ashley in Africa a shout out!). Thank you all for your continued prayers and support!
